Color and Shape

Week 1 of Jane Davies' Dynamic Composition class has been focused on color and shape studies.  These are just three of my pieces.  The first two are 11 inches square, the last 9 inches square.  I'm learning quite a bit -- the class has already paid for itself for me, plus there are five lessons left.

You're looking at them in the order in which they were completed.  I like the blues best myself.  I've found out that I don't like tints (whitening) of all the colors, especially reds and greens.  An interesting realization, but I think I already knew this, just never articulated it before now.  But then color, I suppose, is as subjective as everything else in art.

More than anything, I seem to always find myself responding to your own particular sense of balance. Looks to be a very good class. Had a thought when I first looked at the 3rd photo ... the way the paper's maker has embossed their logo ... wouldn't that be an oh-so-subtle way of adding words? so delicate and faint that they almost can be missed ... ? something sort of appealing about that [my own subjectivity ;>]

These are wonderful, especially the middle one - the colors sing a joyful song.

Truly beautiful, Connie. I too like the middle one. Perhaps it is the green and yellowish green that adds the interest? I love learning the why to why I don't care for certain colors. I think you are onto something with tints. I have never cared for pastels. I always thought it was like having a mini cookie. Why skimp on color or calories? Have a wonderful week, my friend.

The second one is my favorite too and I think it is because it gives the feeling of having three dimensions, but most definitely because of the choice of colors.

These are beautiful. I too like the blue ones best. There is something restful and contemplative about them.

Love the texture!

I like all of these although my favourite is the blue and green one. I do like the contrast in the blue one, between the straight lines and the circle.

Fun! Reminds me of my H.S. Drawing and design class.. the teacher had us cut geometric shapes in black white and gray construction paper and create small compositions working on contrasts in shape and shades. I think I like the top 2 best... pink/orange has always been a favorite color combo of mine, but I'm also fond of blues and greens. I can't wait to see what else you learn in Jane's class!
